What's Up With Xbox Media Center

Interface Sounds

Whoa! I don't know how this one got past me, but after installing the 4-22-05 build, not only is there a start up sound, but full blown interface sounds! Being a Tivo owner, I've wanted this feature since I got my hands on Xbox Media Player, the former project, years ago. Interface feedback sounds make a media center easier to use and adds to the refined presentation. The best part is that it looks like its themeable. There is a preference in the "Look & Feel" section to choose your sounds. Good work Xbmc guys!

The double click bug for the remote seems to be gone, I didn't have any problems. And I'd have to say I kinda like Project Mayhem III, its growing on me. Its by far the most impressive skin yet, and looks wonderful. Plus, when you pop back to the main interface while a video is playing, it plays full screen under the main menu. It looks wonderful. You gotta see it to believe it.

  • Nice addition, I need to update XBMC then. How are the sounds packaged? Is it part of the the PMIII skin or is it just files in a directory that anyone can change?

  • Hi agree that its easily the most polished - but its not something i would put on... it doesnt look profesional enough in parts - images like the background for my pictures just aint what eg. sony would put out, whereas i think most of the skin is upto say a sony type standard..

oh well... guess if i dont like i should do something about it.

  • Loving the UI sounds, makes a big difference to the feel of XBMC. But does anyone know how to disable the 'Startup Sound'? Couldn't find the setting in any of the .XML files, but maybe i'm not looking hard enough.

  • Just remove the startup wav in the sounds folder; see Jon's post
